What we work for.
People + Values
We have been around for a good 80 years – Velener Textil or Velener for short. A great team of around 100 really good employees, modern machinery with the latest weaving and spinning technology and plenty of inventive spirit. We see ourselves as a genuine family business, and not just in terms of our shareholder structure: team spirit, reliability and honesty are very important to us – especially when working with you, our customers. After all, textile innovation and continuous development can only be achieved where people can work together openly, constructively and as equals.
Like every company, we want to secure our future. Anyone who is part of our team should have a secure job, experience appreciation for their work and receive a decent salary. And because this only works if we are competitive, our course is very straightforward: quality leadership in goods, production processes and service.
Velener Textil: Woven history
Our company history tells of the major upheavals in the German textile industry, of automation and innovation, and of how a family business can hold its own in a highly competitive market.
A family affair
The company was founded in 1933 by Anton Wevers and Bernhard Grimmelt as Velener Textilwerk Grimmelt, Wevers & Co. OHG. Josef Spanderen joined the company in 1934. It was these three families who made Velener so successful in the decades that followed. In 1990, the textile factory was converted into a limited liability company and renamed Velener Textil GmbH in 2011. But we are still a family business: since the departure of Anton Wevers, an heir of the company's founder, in 2010, our company has been managed by Bernd Spanderen and Ernst Grimmelt.
No progress without drive
Innovations that have enabled our products to continue to assert themselves are firmly woven into our company history: as early as 1956, the weaving mill was converted to automatic weaving machines. Two years later, our first in-house spinning mill was completed. In 1970, the first rapier weaving machines followed, and by 1990 the factory had been completely converted. Today, we rely on air jet weaving machines from Picanol. Gradually, the space in the old textile factory became too small for us. In 1980, we therefore built new halls in the industrial area of Velen, and our company moved there completely. The spinning mill was also redesigned at the same time. Here, too, we have repeatedly invested in product development and new machines so that we can offer our customers ever better and more innovative yarns. A successful company that manufactures many products also needs good warehousing and logistics. We have therefore had a high-bay warehouse since 2001.
Setting an example
Sustainability has always been important to us at Velener, not only for our fabrics and yarns – we also want to make our production processes increasingly environmentally friendly and energy efficient: We have gradually installed a heat recovery system, renewed the air conditioning in the weaving mill and introduced an energy management system (EnMS) that is integrated into our existing management system in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001 and certified according to ISO 50001. In addition, various energy analyses and projects have already been carried out in the past. Nevertheless, we believe there is still considerable potential for savings in our operations. In order to realise this potential, we are now conducting a comprehensive analysis based on the PIUS check methodology.*
