Do you know how much cotton literally falls by the wayside in the production process? In weaving mills, many meters of yarn remain on the spools, in sewing mills, heaps of fabric remnants from cutting. Impeccable material – but it is usually disposed of unused, and that also costs money.

This is exactly where we started to develop a more sustainable alternative. We turn yarn and fabric remnants from our production into individual fibers. We spin these with long-fiber virgin cotton to create WECYCLED^® yarns. In the same high quality that characterizes all Velener yarns: top machine running, uniformity and high tensile strength.
 

Textile recycling management with a system.  

There is a reason for this consistently high quality: we only recycle yarn and fabric remnants from yarns that were produced in our own spinning mill. We collect these from our customers on a regular basis. This creates a closed cycle according to the cradle-to-cradle principle, from which everyone benefits.

The international GOTS certificate seals cotton cultivation according to the criteria of organic farming: no synthetic pesticides, no insecticides, no herbicides and no genetic engineering are used. In this way, GOTS yarns protect ecosystems and soils.

The GOTS seal also guarantees compliance with strict social and ethical standards. Child labor and discrimination are prohibited. All workers along the entire supply chain receive at least the respective statutory minimum wage. And health and safety protection applies in the workplace.

Voluntary sustainability standards. 

Cotton made in Africa is a voluntary sustainability standard for African cotton. The textile label promotes sustainable, smallholder cotton cultivation, particularly in the sub-Saharan region. To this end, the initiative finances projects based on the principle of help for self-help. The Better Cotton Initiative operates in a similar way: it supports local communities in the world's cotton-growing countries through education and health programs.
 

Better working conditions, less environmental impact.

You can support these measures with appropriately certified yarns. However, BCI- and CMiA-certified cotton is predominantly grown conventionally. Only qualities certified with the green CmiA seal are organic cotton.

If your finished articles are also certified according to OEKO-TEX^® STANDARD 100 product class 1, they have been tested to the strictest requirements and limit values, safe enough for babies.

Our cotton yarns certified to the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) contain verified recycled cotton fibers – with a minimum of 20% recycled content depending on the yarn quality (for B2B documentation) and a minimum of 50% for product labeling – in accordance with Textile Exchange guidelines. Every stage of the supply chain – from the collection of recycled cotton to spinning and final production – is independently verified. This ensures transparency, quality, and sustainable responsibility in every meter of yarn.

Using recycled cotton significantly reduces the need for water, energy, and raw materials. GRS-certified yarns guarantee a minimum recycled content of 20%, verified through the supply chain.
